OFI promotes integrated rural development to address major challenges such as water scarcity, declining agricultural productivity and economic migration caused by lack of jobs.

By prioritizing nature- based solutions, OFI believes that working with nature, rather than against it, paves the way for a more resource-efficient, competitive and greener economy.

Our actions
OFI supports, with its local partners (Gramium, SEVAI, ISSAI, Kalvi Kendra), projects anchored in the cultural and socio-economic context:

  • the renovation of reservoirs to improve water availability,

  • training farmers in sustainable agricultural techniques,

  • planting trees to increase vegetation cover,

  • the establishment of organic composting units,

  • access to microcredit and vocational training for women from marginalized communities.

Current Projects

Reservoir rehabilitation

Tank with Water.jpg

OFI and its local partners have implemented a program to build and renovate rainwater collection tanks, which, by preventing water runoff, allow:

  • to feed the water tables,

  • to distribute water via a network of wells,

  • to irrigate and make previously arid agricultural land cultivable,

  • to access drinking water,

  • to plant trees.

More than 100 reservoirs have been rehabilitated, making more than 20,000 hectares of land cultivable.
A rehabilitated reservoir can irrigate 100 hectares. The availability of water boosts crop yields, allowing farmers to harvest up to three crops per year.

With the help of the partner association "GreenGood Labs", a scientific program was implemented to quantify the impact of our actions through the use of geosatellite data . The results confirmed the increase in surface and frequency harvests achieved through the renovation of the reservoirs.

Sustainable agriculture

OFI and its partners encourage sustainable organic agriculture that respects the environment :

  • use of organic waste (natural fertilizers and pesticides),

  • rational use of water (drip irrigation),

  • beekeeping,

  • training in production and distribution of productions.

Farmers are encouraged to consider ways to build resilience to climate change and drought.

Reforestation and regeneration of biodiversity

Tree Plantation.jpeg

Reforestation and the regeneration of biodiversity by planting local tree species help prevent rainwater from running off too quickly without penetrating the earth.

300,000 trees have been planted.
