Working on sustainable development in India
Health and Hygiene

In India, access to healthcare remains limited for many vulnerable populations, particularly in remote and underserved regions.
OFI is committed to improving access to healthcare for marginalized communities. This includes dedicated support for children and adults with disabilities—many of whom face social exclusion—as well as for those living with chronic or stigmatized conditions. In addition, OFI actively promotes hygiene and preventive healthcare to improve overall well-being and dignity.
Our actions
Ensure access to appropriate and specialized care
• Support multidisciplinary rehabilitation care centers.
• Welcoming children affected or infected by HIV.
• Enable the social reintegration of adults whose mental health is precarious.
Carry out preventive actions
• Promote hygiene by building toilets.
• Train people in hygiene and health.
SOME OF OUR PROJECTS AND ACTIVITIES

Multidisciplinary rehabilitation centers
Partner NGOs, Paras Padma and Asha Bhavan Center, provide rehabilitation services through physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, speech therapy, and orthopedic support to young children from poor and remote communities. Patients receive medical assistance and orthopedic prosthetics if necessary. Parents are also counseled to ensure comprehensive care.
OFI supports:
• 4 speech therapy and physiotherapy centers treating 200 children,
• 1 orthopedic workshop for disabled children.
Protection and Development of
HIV-Affected Children
Child HIV Support Programs aim to improve the lives of children infected or affected by HIV/AIDS through two initiatives:
• the HIV nutrition project, implemented with GRAMIUM, provides essential support, including nutrition, education, medical care and psychological support.
• The House of Hope (HUT) association runs a shelter for HIV-infected children, providing them with safe accommodation, nutritious food, counseling and access to education through a branch school.

Social reintegration
OFI supports two projects to welcome and reintegrate adults with intellectual health problems who are often lost or abandoned:
-
The DIN home in Trichy accommodates around fifty adults. Residents receive medical examinations, counseling, and therapy to help them recover and reintegrate into society, as well as family searches and identity papers.
-
The ICOD center in West Bengal takes in mentally ill adults and elderly people abandoned on the streets.
Hygiene, access to toilets and drinking water and training
Hygiene, and more specifically access to water in daily life, remains a major concern in many rural areas.
• The rehabilitation of reservoirs has enabled the construction of artesian wells in villages to facilitate the supply of water for toilets and domestic chores, as well as access to drinking water.
• OFI has contributed to the renovation of hundreds of toilets, with its partners Gramium and Sevai, as well as hygiene training provided by social workers to ensure the proper and sustainable use of these facilities.
• OFI, with its partners Gramium, Sevai, and Issai, has developed health awareness programs that focus on crucial topics such as hygiene, sanitation, and general well-being. They aim to equip communities with essential knowledge to prevent disease and improve daily living conditions.
